Tamara Schlesinger has been making music for 20+ years, first as the leader of the acclaimed alt-folk collective 6 Day Riot and since 2014 as an artist under the name MALKA, releasing four brilliant solo records which garnered praise from BBC 6 Music and numerous respected magazines and blogs, Tamara’s music has been featured on Hollywood blockbusters and TV series such as 127 Hours, Scream IV and Skins, and across MTV and Netflix. MALKA has also featured on the lineups of festivals such as Glastonbury, Canadian Music Week and Bestival.

Tamara has built her career from the ground up, founding her own record label and releasing her own music. She has managed the live bands and planned all aspects of the release. Tamara draws from her degree in fashion from Central St Martin's to create all aspects of the visual identity for her projects.

Having learnt her trade as a practitioner Tamara now mentors various artists that are releasing their own music, and has over 10 years experience as a lecturer and writing courses in Music Business. Tamara is a regular panelist and guest lecturer at industry events, is a member of the Ivor Novello Scottish Council.

In 2020, Tamara founded the all female/non binary songwriting Collective Hen Hoose, which aims to level the playing field with regards to gender representation in the music industry. The Collective have been recognised by the John Lennon Foundation and The Big Issue for their gender equality work. As a composer, Tamara regularly produces music for TV adverts and works closely with a number of advertising agencies writing music to brief.
