Micah Smith (Crescendo Fest)
Micah Smith is a powerhouse leader dedicated to uplifting her community. Born and raised in North Preston, Canada’s largest Indigenous Black community, she has built a career grounded in purpose, creativity, and impact.
As a musician, Micah has collaborated with renowned artists like Reeny Smith, Joel Plaskett, and Matt Andersen, and has performed with Michael Bublé. She’s also shared the stage with legends such as Lisa Fischer, Jully Black, Buddy Guy, Daniel Caesar, and Anderson Paak.
Her passion for mentorship shines through her work with ADVANCE Canada’s Black Music Business Collective, where she serves on the Board of Directors, and with Women in Music Canada, where she graduated from the Inaugural Leadership Accelerator Program in 2024.
In 2023, Micah launched Crescendo Fest—a groundbreaking platform amplifying African Nova Scotian and Black artists. For years, these artists have been outnumbered and overlooked at festivals across the East Coast. Micah saw the need and took action to change the narrative, proving that world-class talent exists within Nova Scotia's Historic Black Communities and that they can produce high-quality, unforgettable shows.
Her impact has been widely recognized: she was named Music Nova Scotia’s Emerging Industry Professional of the Year in 2022, is a two-time recipient of the Artistic Development Award(2023 & 2024), and Crescendo Fest has received Live Sector Award nominations both years, Micah also received a nomination for Innovator of the year for the 2025 ECMA Awards.
Selected for the WIMC: Viva Sounds Mission in Sweden and serving as a JUNOfest Producer for the 2024 JUNO Awards, Micah continues to celebrate Black music and culture—bridging music and community empowerment to inspire meaningful change.
